Sand and Storms
The cable guy actually showed up at 8:30am this morning so I wasn't sitting around at home all morning. I decided to make a trip down to the Isle of Palms to stick my feet in the Atlantic Ocean for a bit. I live about 7 miles from Charleston in one direction and one of the many beaches about the same distance in another direction. On my way to the coast I found where the Target I had been looking for was hiding.
After a couple of minutes walking along the sand and surf I jumped back across the Isle of Palms Connector to do some shopping. I hit Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond to get some things for home before deciding to go to Charleston itself. The big shopping area in along King St.. You can find pretty much anything you are looking for from Abercrombie & Fitch to Banana Republic to Ben Silver to The Gap to J Crew to Saks Fifth Avenue and a ton of specialty stores and antique shops. King St. also has a lot of restaurants, bars, and clubs. Needless to say I did my part to support the economy this afternoon.
I picked up a copy of the local free magazines, Charleston City Paper and Skirt!, while I was downtown. Charleston City Paper is a lot like Creative Loafing and your typical "what's going on" magazines you see in bigger cities. The nightlife in Charleston is very good and this weekly magazine does a good job of not only showing what's going on, but in one section they also provide an editorial blurb for all of the various venues. Skirt!, as the name implies, is targeted towards women and uses a pretty trending format for articles that are stuck in amongst all the ads. At first glance I got a feel for some events happening in the area and a real estate ad on the next to last page let me know that the Calhoun Mansion is for sale. Anyone have $6.5 million they can do without?
On the way back home the skies began to look threatening. I did some more unpacking and caught up on the news. I decided to hit one of the local Irish pubs for dinner and to do a little bit of socializing. The general topics of conversation were Eli Manning, the Jason Williams verdict, the Kentucky Derby, and how bad satellite reception gets during a rainstorm. There was a pretty decent downpour happening by the time I headed home. I managed to cross a lot of things off my list today, but there are a few things left that I need to get done.
