Actually sewing it together tonight. A few things that are making this less fun: The pattern has 1/2" seams. My machine has markings for 3/8" and 5/8". Fixed with a piece of tape on the throat plate. Glad I actually checked this on the pattern before sewing! The bottom edges of the back and side back pieces don't match up. Drove myself mad trying to ease it or figure out what was wrong. Finally checked the paper pieces - they just don't match up. Am now wondering if I cut the wrong size pieces. Will leave edges uneven (no biggie, as I cut them un-shaped and plan to shape them once the waist/hip fit properly) and see what happens.
Leeds cheap hotels I have excessively long laces on my corset at the moment, and they trail behind me. The kitty is chasing the tails and it's the cutest thing ever. The kitty is Clyde, my step-cat. Dennis has had her for almost 10 years, but she's as perky as a much younger cat would be, given the proper stimulation. And me walking around with a giant green shoelace behind me definitely qualifies. Sigh. Too big. The bodice muslin does not fit. I'm going to make up the next smallest size, and see if that is any better. I also think I'll get Ryan to re-take my measurements. Dennis did the original set, and he may have been too busy admiring the vast expanse of cleavage created by my corset to get accurate numbers. Still, the pattern is uniformly too big, so I think it will be good once I have the correct size. I'd be more worried if it was tight in some areas and loose in others. The back shoulder area looks good. the pattern has the shoulder seam shifted to the back of the shoulder, instead of the center like a modern bodice, and I wasn't sure how that was going to work, but it's really quite nice.
I've started cutting out the pattern, in a lovely orange gingham check. Golly, maybe I'll just end up using the muslin for my dress! Ok, clearly I've been up too late. Should start over later.
This is the pattern, from Truly Victorian. I'm doing the square-neckline version, with the straight sleeve of the high-necked version. The sleeves will be elbow-length. The bottom will be shaped, and may be higher on the hip than the square-neckline version. The fabric is a light wasabi colored silk plain weave. Not quite crisp enough to be a taffeta. Embellishment TBD. Probably some embroidery. Probably some crystal beading. All will be revealed as I work on it. I hope. |
