To paraphrase the famous English chef Mrs Beeton, "First take your map" If you have a map, then it is very easy to find the house. While Raheengraney House is buried deep in the countryside, it is only 55 miles from Dublin and 15 miles from the nearest motorway. If you have a map, find Clonegal and skip to the end of the directions. If you dont, then here are a variety of routes you can take. Remember, people are very helpful so stop and ask for directions if you get lost! Out through Tallaght on the Blessington Road. Through Baltinglass, Rathvilly and Tullow until you reach the Carlow to Bunclody Road. Turn left heading for Bunclody. After a couple of miles (passed Whites sawmills on left and large pub on right), Clonegal is sign posted off to the left. Take this road into the village (couple of miles). Entering the village you pass a Chapel on the left and arrive at a cross with PJ Dunne (grocers, petrol and pub) to the right and the local junior school to the left. Take the road opposite, sign posted to Park Lodge Farmhouse B&B. After just under three miles you travel up a fairly steep hill. On exactly three miles, at the top of the hill, you will see a paddock to the left with a driveway opposite to the right. At the entrance to the driveway will be a sign for Raheengraney House. Take the Wexford road (N11) to Rathnew. Instead of following N11, take the road for Rathdrum and proceed through Aughrim and Tinahealy and on to Shillelagh. In Shillelagh, turn left at the "T" junction heading for Carnew. Approximately two miles outside the village is a right turn sign posted to Park Bridge. Follow this road, bearing right in the first few hundred yards at a Give Way sign, up and down two large steep hills. At the top of a third hill you will pass a right turn sign posted Park Bridge (you may also see another sign for Park Bridge or Park Lodge B&B on the second hill) and after another couple of hundred yards there will be a paddock to the right with a driveway opposite to the left. At the entrance (hidden from the road heading in your direction) will be a sign for Raheengraney House. From the rest of the country, your best bet is to buy a map and get to Clonegal! Then it is only three miles away (see directions from West Dublin). |
