Hydrastis canadensis
By Mary Hunter
Goldenseal is a natural herb with many medicinal purposes, as isGinseng, and has grown in usage dramatically in recent years. I believe innatural herbs, which we can grow and use with no side effects. Also, growing bothGinseng along with Goldenseal is putting something back into our virginforests, rather than always just taking something out. Balance, always balance. Growing Goldenseal is very profitable also. To our customers, Goldenseal can,and should be an alternate and a rotational crop blending perfectly with Ginsengbecause Goldenseal thrives where Ginseng has grown previously and both require the samegrowing conditions of shady, rich luminous virgin Forrest soil. It is notrecommended to replant ginseng for a second time in the same soil or spot. However, Goldenseal thrives where Ginseng has grown before!!
You can plant Goldenseal from seeds, which takes 3-4 yearsto develop or you can plant it by vegetatively propagated plants, which may flowerthe first year. Goldenseal "root"is actually a horizontal rhizome about1/2" to 3/4" thick. From one Goldenseal plant, you can vegetatively propagate upto 10 new "roots" or buds. An average Goldenseal plant willusually give you 4-5 new "roots" or buds. See the picture on our web sitewhere Michael cut up one Goldenseal "root" or bud. We can, and shouldalways look to our future with Hope for a better and more harmonious way of life forothers, as well as ourselves. Lets begin by showing this new generation a goodexample of the Best Land Preservation and utilization. It will also teach them how,by giving we all benefit and learn the true meaning of sharing and caring. Then, we will also teach how our attitude and our choices are both intelligent ,profitable and Will Balance Man and Nature.

Goldenseal usage has been traced back to the AmericanIndian, as is Ginseng, for a general health tonic and used for centuries bymany, and research is discovering it's worth in boosting the immune system, amongother many medicinal purposes. Balance, always balance. Man and Nature,Ginseng (oxidizes) and Goldenseal (cleanses). You can balance new and old, asin old techniques and new technology. The American Indians also used it asantiseptic, to treat snake bites and whooping cough, pneumonia and many more cleansinguses, such as an eye wash and to treat sores. Recent research has found Goldensealusage to aid in treatment where topical antiseptics are needed, as it cleanses theblood of toxic matters. Ginseng oxidizes your blood. Because Goldenseal doescleanse your blood of toxins, it can also mask urine tests for illegal drugs. This fact alone, tells of how Goldenseal is very beneficial to ourhealth and well being, it's like getting an oil change for your engineor body.
Goldenseal is now one of the top selling natural herbs on themarket, second to Ginseng, for natural health remedies. Goldenseal also, insome states has become an endangered species, as is Ginseng. As a nature balancer, keep in mind how we all can do our best to make just dreaming into doing, giving back to nature instead of always just taking. Your rewards? Startcounting---putting back something good, utilizing and balancing our forests so they remaina blessing, not a burden to the next generation and many more to come..
Giving Hope to another generation surely is a positive thing we all need to do. It is anegative person who will not change and strive to help and do what he must. I believewhen I'm positive, I achieve and when I'm negative, I stand still. Goldenseal and Ginseng are both a natural herb, with high medicinal purposes. Both are profitable, not only in money, but also in personal rewards. Its aboutbuilding a new and better generation of Giving Back to Nature. Take what you need toDo your Dream, leave the rest for our future generations.
Balance, always balance.

Question for Mary: A thousand rootlets for $650., how much acreage shouldbe used, how much does this cover, and how many lbs. should we expect to harvest?
Gladys, In reply to your questions concerning1,000 Goldenseal rootlets, I would recommend you plant them on about 1/4 acre of woodland. You can expect in 3 years (or less) to harvest at least 60 lbs. of Goldenseal. Andthen you can dig those up and divide them up so that in another 3 years you wouldharvest at least 180 lbs. of Goldenseal
1st. year 1,000 rootlets-cut up into 4,000 rootlets plant on 1/4acre. Yeild of60 lbs or more.
3rd. year-4,000 rootlets-cut up into 16,000 rootlets plant on 1 Acre.Yeild of 180 lbsor more.etc.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to E mail me back.
Thank you, Sincerely, Mary Hunter
